UAE-Backed forces launch campaign to expel Islah from government

UAE-backed factions and allies of Tariq Saleh have launched a campaign to remove the Islah Party from Yemen’s government institutions.

AhlulBayt News Agency: UAE-backed factions within Yemen’s Leadership Council and the Saudi-aligned government are working to oust the Islah Party and remove its affiliates from state institutions, accusing the party of exacerbating national crises.

Activists from the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and supporters of Tariq Saleh have launched a coordinated online campaign to expel Islah loyalists from government offices in Aden and southern provinces—marking their first joint initiative since a coordination meeting in May.

The campaign alleges that Islah has manipulated ongoing crises to tighten its grip on institutions and stir public unrest, thereby destabilizing the political environment.

The UAE, along with its allies in the STC and Tariq Saleh’s camp, seeks to sever ties with Islah, challenging Saudi Arabia’s influence in resource-rich regions. The campaign also accuses Islah of trying to dominate Hadramout via the Hadramout Tribal Alliance, led by a pro-Saudi figure who declared self-rule.

These developments threaten existing agreements between Riyadh and the STC, with Saudi Arabia being blamed for backing Islah’s maneuvers. The campaign follows a complaint by Tariq Saleh to the Saudi ambassador, criticizing Rashad al-Alimi, head of the Leadership Council, for not appointing Saleh-aligned figures.

The growing tensions within the Leadership Council reflect efforts to diminish al-Alimi’s authority, as factions resist strengthening the military structure. The campaign also highlights the UAE’s broader strategy to reshape alliances and curb the influence of the Saudi-supported Islah Party, which reportedly operates under various names.
